BJÖRK:
Last seen on German stages in 2003, we are extremely honored to announce an exclusive performance by quite possibly the world’s most extravagant and exciting contemporary pop artist. Accompanied by almost 30 musicians, she’s certain to create a stunning visual and musical experience that even the City of Steel has never seen the likes of. Björk as “Earth Intruder(s)“, “Venus As A Boyâ€, maybe even as an “Army Of Me“ – visions that will at long last become reality again.
FRANZ FERDINAND:
Franz Ferdinand must surely accept a share of the responsibility for making guitar pop sexy again. With their confident eponymous debut album, these four art school graduates from Glasgow breathed new life into the moldy remains of New Wave with their perfectly tailored live appearances. We are especially proud that the forerunners of the new wave of British bands have chosen Melt! as their only German festival appearance this year.
EDITORS:
2007 was the year of the Editors. With their second album “An End Has A Start†and its emotive advance single “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors†these four young men from Birmingham demonstrated an unrivalled soulfulness and musical professionalism. It’s precisely because vocalist Tom Smith isn’t afraid of pathos and because his band specialise in putting music to the truly grand gestures that the Editors have won the hearts of fans all over the world. The few not already smitten on hearing the album couldn’t help but succumb when Smith dissolved into a heartbreakingly ethereal lightshow and transmitted his powerful voice to the microphone. The very thought of seeing that against the backdrop of Ferropolis is sending shivers down our spines already.
MELT ON SUNDAY:
Due to the great demand Melt! have decided to add a third day to the festival. It will now end on Sunday, 20th July 2008 at approximately 11 p.m. after Björk’s performance. The new Melt! Sunday has a limited capacity of 12,000 visitors and is also available as a separate ticket. We therefore recommend that visitors choose one of the three ticket categories on offer early on.
We will be announcing the rest of Sunday’s program soon and on Friday and Saturday, Melt! will take place in its usual form, spread across six stages and with a capacity of up to 20,000 visitors.
