“London has many festivals but you’d be hard to pressed to find one as electric or fun as Lovebox” – The Sun

AWARD WINNER 2008 ‘BEST MEDUIM SIZED FESTIVAL’

HOE-DOWNS, OPERAS AND HULA-HOOPING: LOVEBOX ANNOUNCES BIGGEST EVER FRINGE FIELD

London’s most extraordinary festival, The Lovebox Weekender, has announced it’s most unique and exciting Fringe Field line-up ever. Promising an eclectic mix of the weird and wonderful, the Fringe Field will play host to remarkable acts including; hoe-down pioneers Cut-A-Shine and the fire-breathing, thongtastic Skate Naked. The exceptional Fringe Stage will once again present a mouth-watering mix of operas, orchestras, comic’s and cirque and will be comperéd by La Clique’s mistress of ceremonies; the fabulous Miss Behave.

Nestled within in a peaceful clearing of trees, the Fringe Field provides an exciting alternative to the rest of the festival. Cut-A-Shine will be hosting their own Barn-Dancing Tent with folk and acoustic sessions from the Magpie’s Nest and there’ll be hordes of walkabout performances from the likes of the Trans-Siberian Marching Band, The Whoopee Club and the resident magicians.

Unique to Lovebox and hosted by the incomparable Miss Behave, the Edinburgh-inspired Fringe Stage returns to present another eclectic mix of remarkable performances. Saturday will witness debuts from Lollapalooza favourite’s Black Joe Lewis and his 8-piece rock n’ soul band and Skate Naked with their fire-breathing antics and wacky circus show. The Bees Knees will be hosting a giant ‘al fresco’ dance class and there’s gypsy fiddlers Hot Club of Belleville and sex god troubadour, Earl Okin both joining the bill.

Headlining the Fringe Stage on Sunday will be Dynamo’s Rhythm Aces who will be joined by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble – the much-admired seven-piece jazz /hip-hop innovators from New Orleans. Enjoying their debuts at Lovebox this year are the London Swingphonia – a 20-piece orchestra playing rat-packed hits sung by the spectacular, tuxedo-wearing Harry Martin – and bizarre soloist, Opera Burlesque. The stage will also play host to a packed child-friendly program on Sunday when acts including: The Chipolotas and the Jones & Barnard Show will serve up slapstick cirque, street theatre and comedy.

Boutique bowling hits the Fringe Field this year as All Star Lanes hosts the first ever outdoor Bowling Championship at a UK Festival. With multiple bowling lanes, delicious cocktails, the best milkshakes, classic American dining and guest DJs playing the jukebox all day – this will be one of the festival’s must-see highlights.

For festival-going fashionistas there will also be a chance to pick up a vintage bargain at the Affordable Vintage Clothes Fair where a bounty of beautiful clothes will be sold across the two days. Yet another debut for the ever-expanding Fringe Field is the Out Of the Ordinary Stage which will host what can only be described as a mind-bending symposium of esoteric learning on earth mysteries, crop circles, leylines and, yep – you guessed it, shamanism.

As well as the Fringe Field London’s most electric and eclectic show-stopping festival has expanded for 2009 with an even bigger 40 acre site that will once again be bursting at the seams, with seven incredible stages as well as the best new acts, performers, stage sets and special effects from all over the world for what promises to be a carnival of anarchic entertainment.

Festival-goers can enjoy one of the most eclectic line-ups ever on the main stage; with headliners Duran Duran and Groove Armada joined by sensational acts including; N.E.R.D, Florence and the Machine, New York Dolls, Doves and VV Brown across the weekend.

Lovebox is also proud to introduce the Gaymers Stage – featuring London’s largest purpose-built tree house for those wanting a bird’s eye view of the festival. The stage will play host to a selection of live performances in an intimate setting.

Inspired by the double-headed llama which featured in the cult Rex Harrison movie, Doctor Doolittle, comes an extraordinary circus tent with similarly siamese set-up. The Pushmi-Pullyu will debut this year’s Lovebox and feature two stages, each at opposite ends of the tent, where both Horse Meat Disco and Disco Bloodbath will co-host the Saturday and Last FM and The Fly will take turns to host the sort of up’n'coming, cutting edge artists and a line-up that reflect their passionate championing of new music.

The 2009 festival will also see the welcome return of the ever-growing and incredibly popular thelondonpaper Sourced Market, the largest farmer’s market of any UK festival. Traders, handpicked from Borough and other London-based farmers markets, will be selling an eclectic range of mouthwatering delights guaranteed to appeal to everyone’s taste buds. And for those of you that like a little fun with your food, why not dine at either the Gaymer’s Orchard Restaurant, with its prime view of the Gaymers Stage or The Hurly Burly – England’s much-loved solar powered café complete with cabaret stage, entertainers and gourmet gastronomy!

For those in need of a spot of outdoor pampering, Lovebox is welcoming a new addition for 2009 in the shape of Heavenly Healing, a fully comprehensive tented village of massage and complimentary therapies to help you kick off your weekend in style.

From chart-topping bands to barn-storming hoedowns Lovebox offers something for everyone; so prepare to lose yourself in Victoria Park this summer as Lovebox presents this year’s dose of musical mastery and mayhem.

“The Lovebox Weekender has become not just one of the most authentic festivals of the summer, but an annual love letter to the capital”- The Guardian

The Lovebox Weekender takes place in London’s Victoria Park from the 18th-19th July and includes performances from the legendary Duran Duran, N.E.R.D, Groove Armarda, Florence and the Machine, Doves, Ladyhawke and many many more.

LOVEBOX– History

At the turn of the new millennium, Tom and Andy aka dance gurus Groove Armada decided that they wanted to develop a winning formula for great parties with that extra special something. Out of their love for the many different types of music that feed in to dance culture LOVEBOX was created with the intent of bringing fresh exciting sounds along with genius classic artists to people’s ears and feet. To this day, LOVEBOX has grown from this humble concept into the capitals most innovative and exciting music festival.

LOVEBOX continues to be lovingly put together by a growing team of enthusiasts who live and breathe the music scene in its many variations. The result is an annual event that stays true to the origins of fantastic music festivals the world over.
