– BIOGRAPHY -

<Overview>
As one of the foremost architects of the UK’s trance scene, Lange has sculpted and shaped the sound that has brought millions on to the dancefloor. Both as an originator and latterly as an innovator of the sound, his role in its continuing evolution can never be underestimated. With an innate, in-built understanding of what rocks floors, he has forged one of the most prodigious careers in trance, and indeed dance music.

< Brief Background >
Lange’s path to production and DJ’ing stardom was an unusually straightforward affair. Born & bred in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, his immediate aspiration, post school, was to break into the world of sound engineering. After A levels he did an HND in Audio Studies and by the time he’d finished the course, he already had a small flotilla of tracks, in varying stages of production.

< Early Works >
Just 12 months later, in 1997, he signed his debut ‘Obsession’ to Positiva‘s hallowed sub-label Additive. From there it took just one more year for the name ‘Lange’ to become indelibly inked on the global clubbing consciousness. The follow up ‘I Believe’ rapidly flew on to the radar of key tastemakers, further cementing his reputation.

< Lange, the Remixer >

Lange’s work in 98 through till 99 was as much about remixing, as it was original productions. His first major success was his rework of DJ Sakin’s ‘Protect Your Mind’, which was championed by Judge Jules and reached no.4 in the UK Top 40! Hot on its heels came his now legendary (and still much sought after) remix of Lost Witness’s ‘Happiness Happening’. Other high profile remix credits quickly followed, including work for Faithless and The Pet Shop Boys.

< Original Productions >

From 2000 onwards Lange began, deliberately to shift the focus of his studio work away from remixing and over to his own productions. The same year he signed ‘Follow Me’ (which featured in the film ‘Kevin & Perry Go Large’ to Positiva, but in the end it took a track under a different name to give Lange his first taste of personal chart success. Released on the Cream label, SuReal’s ‘You Take My Breath Away’ broke the UK top 20 and peaked at no.15 in the summer of 2000.

< Chart Hits >

‘Drifting Away’, his biggest release to date, perfectly captured the public zeitgeist for mainstream trance. It reached No.9 in the UK sales chart in the first week of January 2002, on Virgin’s estimable VC Recordings label. Its success resulted in Lange performing on the BBC’s ‘Top of the Pops’ and also ITV’s ‘The Pepsi Chart Show’.

Overall Lange’s productions and remixes have now resulted in 20 UK Top 40 hits, 6 of which have peaked inside the Top 10.

< Collaborations and Guises>

In mid 2003 Lange began to focus more attention on club-orientated, side projects. These included outings under his Firewall, LNG, and Vercetti monikers. Subsequently spawning the club smashes ‘Kilimanjaro’, ‘Intercity’ and ‘Skimmer’, respectively.lange-vs-gareth-emery-1-large.jpg

In early 2005 Lange began his collaborative venture with fellow DJ and producer Gareth Emery. The first tracks (‘This Is New York’ & ‘X equals 69’) received massive across-the-board DJ support and showed how Lange was continuing to innovate and remould the trance sound. ‘Back on Track’ & ‘Three’ came out in March 2005, receiving equal acclaim and in October their fifth track together ‘Another You, Another Me’ was signed to Paul van Dyk’s Vandit label.

< The DJ >
With the public’s desire to see their production hero’s behind the decks tied into his new-found thirst for mixing, Lange bought his first decks in 2001. His accession through the DJ ranks has been no more clearly demonstrated than in his showings in the renowned DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ’s poll. He debuted at No.51 in 2003 and was similarly placed at No. 54 in 2006.

Regularly playing for some of the biggest brands & events worldwide, Lange has spun for Gatecrasher, Ministry of Sound, Godskitchen, Slinky, Passion, Zouk, and The Gallery.

He has headlined many prestigious festivals, including Summadayze, the Popsicle festival in San Francisco, Spooky and WEMF in Canada, Fortdance in St Petersberg, Playground in Jakarta and Global Gathering in the UK
